Bullying needs to stop, reaches critical point in Malaysia
SHAH ALAM - Bullying cases are categorised as critical as they cause death.
Crime analyst Shahul Hamid Abdul Rahim urged programmes with the elements of bullying to be stop immediately, especially those involving the gatherings of seniors and juniors together.
“The bullying case today has become severe, my advice would be to only organise programmes that brings values and benefits to the attendees without any elements of bully.
“When elements of bullying are present, it could cause injuries," he told Sinar Harian yesterday.
Shahul said when bullying becomes a habit, those participating are bound to hold grudges against one another.
He said juniors who were bullied will bully their juniors in the future, becoming a never-ending cycle of violence and trauma.
He added that the bullies need to realise that they could face legal action from the courts if they continue their actions.
The Covid-19 pandemic has caused a major setback in the student's educational progress thus should be the main focus as they slowly reenter physical schooling as opposed to bullying their schoolmates.
Meanwhile, criminologist Kamal Affandi Hashim said parents and families play key roles in developing character traits in a child.
The severity of bullying cases in the country, among others, comes down to the observation of family and social fabric gap. "The social fabric gap should be further strengthened by taking the views and insights of teenagers themselves, especially at a time where technology is readily available for our use," he said.
On Nov 2, six Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia students were sentenced to 18 years in prison after they were found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder of UPNM cadet officer Zulfarhan four years ago.
