SHAH ALAM - Parti Warisan Sabah will now be known as Parti Warisan following its official expansion to Peninsular Malaysia tomorrow (Nov 17).

Its president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said the party offers a new alternative; a Malaysia for all that goes beyond race and religion.

“We move as an alternative that is not restricted by certain race and religion alone.

“Warisan offers a place for everyone,” he said during a meeting with top media chiefs on Wednesday.

Warisan will be launched as a national political party at Sime Darby Convention Centre Kuala Lumpur at 9pm.

When asked who are the big names expected to join the party, Shafie only said: “I am certain many will be surprised... InsyaAllah”.

He reiterated that Warisan has always been open to all types of cooperations so long as it was for the Malaysian people.

Previously, Shafie offered Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) a platform under Warisan if their bid to register as a political party failed once more.

On Tuesday, however, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered the Home Ministry to register Muda within the next two weeks.

Shafie said Warisan needs to be pragmatic and realistic in their move to penetrate the Peninsula states.

“Surely we will not contest or open divisions and branches nationwide at one go.

“We will choose areas that has a multiracial population first because we want Warisan to be a truly diverse party. We want to bring a new aspiration that could be accepted by future generations

“Politics is a marathon not a sprint.

If I am not able to see the results of what we are doing now, my grandchildren will and they will benefit from this struggle. I accept this fate,” he said.

Shafie is not alien to the Peninsula, as he has been residing here since young.

“I studied at Victoria Institutions Kuala Lumpur and married to a Kedahan. My in-laws are from Muar, Klang and Kelantan.

“I am the definition of a Malaysia. Wouldn’t be wonderful if we could do the same for politics?” he added.

Parti Warisan Sabah was established on Oct 17, 2016 by Shafie after he quit Umno together with a few other Sabah politicians.

However, after two years in power, the state government fell which led to the Sabah State Elections in 2020.

The Warisan-led coalition lost to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
